IAM WELLNESS BULLETIN
As IAM members we all know our jobs can be physically demanding, emotionally exhausting, and mentally draining, especially over time. The combination of high expectations and high-pressure environments contributes to real and often unspoken mental health challenges.
IAM members have access to confidential 24/7 mental health services through the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP).

What is EFAP?
At IAM Local 764, we understand the importance of providing support and resources to our members during challenging times. The Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) is an employee benefit program, supported by both labour and management, that offers confidential, professional assistance to help employees and their families resolve personal problems.
Why we have EFAP?
The Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) exists because workers face real-life challenges that can affect their well-being, both on and off the job. Life just isn’t about work- people deal with stress, mental health struggles, family issues, financial problems, and more. When those struggles go unaddressed, they can impact a members health, job performance, and overall quality of life.
Why EFAP Matters?
We all know when someone is struggling personally, it affects their work life too. Stress, anxiety, depression, addiction, and family problems don’t just stay at home – they come with us to work. If we don’t address these issues, it can lead to burnout, absenteeism, accidents, or even job loss. That’s why early support is key. The sooner someone gets help, the better the outcome. This is where EFAP can play a role.
What are the Principles of the EFAP?
CONFIDENTIALITY
– Workers can access support without fear of judgement or consequences at work
– Is inclusive to everyone
– Insures all members interactions with EFAP remain private
– No information is shared with employers or colleagues without the members consent
VOLUNTARY PARTICIPATION
– Members and their families can access EFAP services by choice, and without coercion
– Encourages a supportive, non- judgemental environment
– Any decision to reach out to EFAP to seek help, or not, in any way interfere with the members position with respect to employment or promotional opportunities
COMPREHENSIVE SUPPORT
– Covers various issues such as mental health, addiction, financial concerns, legal matters, and family counselling
– Help members and their families cope with stress, anxiety, depression, and other challenges
