Unemployment Dues

Members who are laid off, or who will be on a long term illness leave, and do not qualify
for automatic dues payment under Grand Lodge Policy 826, and who wish to maintain their
membership in good standing with Local Lodge 764, must remit Unemployment Dues directly to
Local Lodge 764 beginning October 1, 2020. The International President of the IAM&AW Robert

District Bulletin 46 – AIR CANADA COVID-19 TEMPERATURE CHECKS AT THE AIRPORTS

The District 140 held a meeting with Air Canada’s labour relations representatives last Friday July 31st. The purpose was to discuss various items including the latest Transport Canada Covid-19 temperature check protocol for airport employees recently imposed last week.

The union was advised that the company will be using its sick day policy to cover members who register a high temperature and have their RAIC ceased while they go for testing even if their tests come back negative. The union is opposed to this measure as members are being forced to use sick days when they themselves are not claiming to be sick and a 3rd party is blocking access to their work place. Furthermore, only frontline employees are being subjected to this and not employees who do not work behind security lines. Read Bulletin here…

We need EI reform now

The Canada Emergency Response Benefit is being phased out. Yet millions of workers will still need help. We need to ensure that Employment Insurance (EI) is ready to support them.

Use this simple tool to send a letter to your MP. Let them know you want to see EI reforms so no one falls through the cracks.  Canadian Labour Congress Letter to MP’s

District 140 reducing the number of General Chair positions

Transportation District 140 has suffered a significant loss of membership and financial revenue due to
the COVID-19 global health pandemic. As a result, Transportation District 140 unfortunately was
faced with temporarily reducing the number of General Chairperson positions within our organization,
per Transportation District 140’s Bylaws, and redistributing servicing responsibilities.

Air Canada – CEWS Extension letter from Stan Pickthall General Vice President

Over the past few days I have had a number of emails and inquiries, looking for further clarification.
At the outset: the IAM did not lay off one single person from Air Canada or from any other IAM-represented workplace. That was the employer’s action, and it is one we strenuously opposed. We continue today to fight for keeping the maximum number of members employed or on CEWS, and we are working with the NDP Caucus to apply pressure to the company. Read Letter here…

Re: Air Canada – CEWS Extension

As you are certainly all aware by now, Air Canada has elected to continue the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) program for active employees and for those it expects to be recalled to active service over the coming months. I know this pandemic has created an undue hardship on many IAM families, including the majority of IAM members working for Air Canada. I have summarized below the activities that led to Air Canada choosing to continue the CEWS in the manner that it has done so: Read Letter here…
