Following our communication on Friday, November 8, 2024, many members took the time to write to the Bargaining Committee to voice their frustration and concern regarding the lack of progress in our negotiations with MTU and expressed their desire to take a strike vote.

The parties met in direct negotiations on October 28, 2024 – November 8, 2024. Discussions continued on non-monetary proposals, including Article 7 Qualifications, Article 9 Filling of Vacancies, and Article 17 Grievance Procedure. The parties resumed direct negotiations on October 28, 2024, and are scheduled to meet through to November 8, 2024. Discussions continued on non-monetary proposals, including Article 9, where the Committee is addressing the memberships concerns around filling of vacancies in a fair and transparent process. – sub-section (c) – page 17 to read as follows…
Current By-law: (c) Effective January 1, 2005 the Local Lodge will pay the unemployment dues of those
members who qualify under Official Grand Lodge Circular 826.
Amend to read : (c) Effective January 1, 2024 the Local Lodge will pay the unemployment dues of those
members who qualify under Official Grand Lodge Circular 889.
Intent : Update sub-section (c) to reflect new rules for unemployment dues as specified in Official Grand
Lodge Circular 898

The parties will resume direct negotiations on October 28, 2024, through November 8, 2024, where we expect to continue discussions on non-monetary proposals, and exchange monetary proposals. We are sensitive to the concerns shared by members regarding delays in the bargaining process and will continue to monitor the situation closely providing you with more frequent updates during this two (2) week period.
Your Committee worked independently on October 17, 2024, reviewing non-monetary proposals and preparing our responses.
