  • Day of Mourning events

The National Day of Mourning honours the memory of workers who have been killed, injured, or suffered illness caused by their work. This is one of the most sacred days on our calendar.

Sadly, in 2023, 201 claims of workers who died were reported to the WCB by end of February 2024, the fourth highest number in the past ten years. Only 175 of these reported claims were accepted by the WCB.

Day of Mourning events will take place in communities around the province. For a full list of events and resources, see link: https://www.dayofmourning.bc.ca/

We encourage friends, coworkers and members to attend an event near you. If you are unable to attend in person, the event will be live-streamed at https://www.dayofmourning.bc.ca/

These demands are not in line with the Canada Labour Code and are causing undue hardship on our membership. It is our members right to decide what documents they are able to provide, if any.
